Frequently Asked Questions
This page contains answers to some of the most basic
questions people ask when looking at a radio modem. Application specific
information and "How-To" documents are found under our
Applications section.

Yes, both the 3AS and the EPIC radio modems are capable
of "store & forward." When the radio modems are set in repeater mode,
messages up to 1 Kb are relayed to outlying remote sites upon receipt from
another radio. For more details visit our repeater page.

The 3AS and EPIC radio modems are completely
interchangeable functioning as a base, remote or repeater as the network
dictates. It is the power or reception requirements that dictate which
model of radio will be necessary, not the location function.

In the United States, Satel radio modems are capable of
sending and receiving messages at any frequency between 380 and 475 MHz.
Typically the band from 450-470 MHz is used, however we can accommodate
any request in the stated range.
For international use, other frequency bands and radio
models are available. Please contact us
directly for assistance with these types of applications.

Any 9-10 volt DC power supply will work, but it is
important to have enough power available to satisfy the Volt/ Amp
requirements of the radio modems when transmitting.
The 3AS requires 5.5 VA when transmitting, and the EPIC
is 25 VA. This requirement is tremendously reduced in receive and stand-by
modes. Overall, Satel modems have a low power consumption and are
perfectly suitable for installations relying on solar or battery power.

The 3AS and EPIC radio modems feature a TNC female
connector to allow for the secure, direct connection of smaller local
antennas or connection to standard N type surge protection, antennas and
cables using a pigtail adapter.

No. Radios for data communication manufactured by
different companies cannot generally communicate with each other over the
air, however Satel radio modems will usually replace other radio modems
without any changes to the connected device.
Yes, we are most likely compatible. Satel radio modems
are generally invisible to the devices that they are connected to. The
only key considerations is that the data speed and message parity of the
radio modem's data port matches the device it is locally connected to.
Please visit our applications page
for more details about connecting to specific items.
